Worker injured in Kazzinc blast to undergo treatment in Astana
Another air ambulance crew has arrived in Ust Kamenogork from Astana to examine the patients injured in the explosion at the Kazzinc plant, Qazinform News Agency reports.
According to the regional healthcare department, specialists from the National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine conducted additional examinations patients hospitalized at the East Kazakhstan Regional Medical Center.
“Doctors re-examined the male patient, born 1983, who sustained a fracture of the third lumbar vertebra, again and confirmed he is fit for airlifting,” the health authorities said.
The man is expected to be airlifted today to the National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine today for further specialized treatment.
The condition of the second patient remains extremely critical, with burns covering 90% of his body.
“We are awaiting another consultation with a resuscitation specialist and a combustiologist from Astana. The possibility of transporting the patient to Astana will be considered after the examination,” the healthcare department added.
Earlier, Qazinform reported that on May 6, a team from the National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine arrived in Ust Kamenogorsk to provide assistance to the those injured in the Kazzinc blast.
The accident occurred on the morning of May 5. Environmental specialists have launched urgent air quality measurements.
As a result of the incident, two employees were killed and five others were injured. The explosion at Kazzinc caused a workshop collapse, with 32 people working in the affected area.
Kazzinc also announced support measures for the families of victims and those injured as a result of explosion.
