Explosion at Kazzinc caused workshop collapse, 32 were in affected area
New details have emerged in Ust-Kamenogorsk following the incident at the metallurgical site of Kazzinc LLP, Qazinform News Agency reports.
According to the East Kazakhstan region’s Department of Emergency Situations, the explosion at the Kazzinc plant was followed by a partial collapse of a production facility.
“Upon arrival of the units, it was established that a blast occurred, resulting in a partial collapse of a workshop. Burning of structures was observed,” said Rakhid Blyalov, chief of the regional emergencies authorities.

The fire was later localized, after which rescuers began clearing the debris. The fire covered an area of about 120 square meters.
32 people were in the affected area, when the incident occurred.
Three people - a senior foreman and two worker – were working at the epicenter. As a result, two people died and five were injured,” he clarified.
Emergency rescue operations are still ongoing at the site. The causes of the incident will be determined after the investigation is completed, and a special commission will be set up.

Earlier, an explosion occurred at the Kazzinc plant, followed by a fire and partial structural collapse.
Two people were killed and another five were injured following the incident.
It was also reported that Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov took personal control of the situation following the explosion at the Kazzinc plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
