On the morning of May 5, a dust-collecting unit at the plant reportedly exploded, causing a fire and a partial structural collapse.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations said the blaze at the Kazzinc facility has been localized. Emergency crews are currently dismantling damaged structures and dousing remaining hotspots to fully extinguish the fire.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Preliminary reports indicate that four people have been taken to a medical facility.

A total of 40 personnel and 10 units of equipment are involved at the scene. The total area affected by the fire is still being determined.

An operational headquarters has been deployed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, bringing together representatives of government agencies and emergency services.

At the same time, instrumental air quality monitoring is being carried out. Measurements are being taken at the boundary of the sanitary protection zone, and the results will be announced after the data has been processed.

“A cloud formation has been observed in the industrial area. Our teams are on-site and are working to assess potential emissions into the atmosphere,” the Ust-Kamenogorsk Department of Ecology said.

Earlier, it was reported that 21 were killed and 61 injured in central China fireworks plant explosion.
