1,204 dead, 4,216 missing in Nepal mudslide
The death toll from the devastating mudslide in Nepal has risen to 1,204, with 4,216 people still missing as of 6 p.m. local time on Wednesday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Xinhua reported.
A total of 301 people have been injured, while 21,314 security personnel have been mobilized for search, rescue and relief operations, the authority said.
Earlier, Qazinform reported that two Kazakhstani women were missing following the natural disaster in Nepal. Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said one more Kazakhstani tourist might have been in the disaster-affected area along the Nepal-China border.
It was also reported that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) had approved a $5 million emergency grant to support rescue and relief efforts in Nepal following devastating floods and debris flows that hit communities along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems on August 26.
