Singapore’s Changi Airport Group interested in new Astana Airport project

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov discussed prospects for cooperation in the implementation of projects in the aviation sector with Yam Kum Weng, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore’s Changi Airport Group (CAG), Qazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh Government.

The meeting focused on attracting international expertise and advanced technologies to Kazakhstan’s airport infrastructure projects, including the planned construction of a second airport in Astana.

Bektenov highlighted the potential for closer cooperation between Kazakhstan and Singapore as the country works to develop its aviation infrastructure in line with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s instructions to establish an international aviation hub.

Changi Airport Group operates Singapore’s Changi and Seletar airports. Through its subsidiary Changi Airports International, the group is involved in the development, management and master planning of airport infrastructure at more than 60 airports in over 20 countries. The group also introduces advanced digital solutions, including biometrics and automation, and adheres to the principles of carbon neutrality.

CAG CEO Yam Kum Weng expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan and highlighted Astana’s potential to serve as a bridge between Europe and Asia. He confirmed the group’s readiness to provide expertise, knowledge and industry experience for the new airport project.

Following the meeting, the sides reaffirmed the strong level of Kazakhstani-Singaporean relations and their interest in further expanding practical cooperation. They noted that future collaboration could focus on creating a comprehensive airport ecosystem.

Earlier, Qazinform reported the Kazakh capital would start construction of a new airport next year.
