Mobile internet speed in Kazakhstan up 75% — Digital Ministry
Investment in Kazakhstan’s telecommunications sector has surpassed 1 trillion tenge over the past three years, Qazinform News Agency quotes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev as saying.
According to the minister, these investments are already delivering tangible results.
“Over the past two years, the number of fixed-line subscribers has increased by 19%, while mobile subscribers have grown by 12%. Average mobile internet speed has risen by 75%, and internet traffic volume has increased by 67%. We are seeing strong growth across all indicators, with traffic, speed, and subscriber numbers steadily increasing,” Madiyev said at the Majilis.
He noted that the growth has been driven by the expansion of base station infrastructure, which remains the primary area of investment for mobile operators.
Kazakhstan is also gradually phasing out outdated 3G technology. Thanks to ongoing network upgrades to 4G, the number of villages relying solely on 3G connectivity has fallen more than fivefold to around 550 settlements. At the same time, the country continues to actively expand its 5G infrastructure.
According to the ministry, more than 3,500 rural settlements are expected to receive high-speed internet access over the next two years, increasing the share of villages connected to fiber-optic networks from the current 43% to 92%.
The government also plans to provide mobile internet coverage along national highways this year, followed by major regional roads next year.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that Kazakhstan has launched its first free AI-powered training platform to prepare for the international SAT exam.
