The tremor was recorded at 1:37 p.m. local time (10:37 p.m. Astana time) near the town of Mantua in Pinar del Río Province, west of the Cuban capital, Havana. CENAIS reported on its Telegram channel that the earthquake’s epicenter was 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) deep.

Such seismic activity is unusual for western Cuba, whereas most earthquakes affecting the island occur in its eastern region.

Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that on June 8, 2026, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in western Cuba, beneath the Gulf of America, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
