Kazakhstan reports a growth in organ transplantation procedures, Qazinform News Agency cites the Healthcare Ministry.
Organ transplantation remains the only chance of survival for thousands of patients in Kazakhstan. Expanding donor culture and improving infrastructure are critical to meeting the growing demand.
236 transplants were carried out in 2023, 260 in 2024, and 310 transplants, the highest in recent years, were performed in 2025.
77 transplants, including 55 from living donors and 22 from deceased donors, were conducted in the first quarter this year.
Kidneys, liver, heart, lungs and cornea transplantations were carried out at large.
Special attention is also paid to the development of pediatric transplantation. Last year, 16 children received organ transplants.
As of now, over 4,600 patients are awaiting transplants, including 119 children.
4,102 patients need kidney transplants; 267 are waiting for liver transplants; 198 patients are waiting for heart and 33 for lung transplants.
The country's waiting list has grown from 3,900 to 4,600 patients compared to 2023.
Deceased donation remains a key factor in developing transplantation and the readiness of society to support donor culture.
The number of potential deceased donors grew from 49 in 2023 to 186 in 2025, while 55 potential donors were identified in the first quarter of 2026.
To note, Kazakhstan annually performs 250-260 kidney, liver and heart transplants.
