Kashagan gas processing plant enters construction phase

Kazakhstan has launched a project to build a major gas processing plant at the Kashagan field, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Ministry of Energy.

Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov chaired a meeting to discuss the project for the construction of a gas processing plant with a capacity of 2.5 billion cubic meters per year at the Kashagan field.

The meeting was attended by leadership from QazaqGaz National Company JSC, PSA LLP, shareholders of the NCOC consortium, and other involved organizations.

Minister Akkenzhenov mentioned that a 1 billion m³ gas processing plant is already under active construction at Kashagan. Meanwhile, a separate 2.5 billion m³ project has now entered the practical implementation phase.

Meeting participants discussed the project's current status, coordination issues among stakeholders, and measures to ensure the facility is commissioned on time.

The Minister noted that the gas processing plant project is of strategic importance for the development of the country's gas industry and is under the special control of the Head of State and the Government of Kazakhstan.

According to a government resolution, a consortium consisting of China National Chemical Engineering Sixth Construction Company Kazakhstan Branch and China Wuhuan Engineering Corporation Ltd has been approved as the EPC contractor for the project.

Following the meeting, Yerlan Akkenzhenov instructed all project participants to ensure effective coordination and constructive cooperation to meet the project's deadlines.

QazaqGaz National Company was also instructed to provide the Ministry of Energy with monthly updates on the project's progress, measures taken, and any issues arising for prompt resolution.
