Eta Aquariids to light up skies in early May
The annual Eta Aquariids meteor shower will reach its broad maximum in early May, offering favorable viewing conditions for skywatchers, a Qazinform News Agency correspondent reports, citing TASS.
According to the Moscow Planetarium, the meteor shower will be active from April 19 to May 28, with peak activity expected around the night of May 6. A wider period of increased activity is forecast between May 3 and May 10, during which observers may see 30 or more meteors per hour.
Astronomers note that the Eta Aquariids are known for their fast and bright meteors, often leaving long, visible trails across the sky. The meteor shower originates from the constellation Aquarius.
While the phenomenon is best observed from the Southern Hemisphere, it will also be visible in parts of the Northern Hemisphere, including Russia. Experts recommend observing in the pre-dawn hours, looking toward the southeastern horizon and choosing locations away from city lights for optimal visibility.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that skywatchers can expect a rare celestial event this May, as the month will feature two full moons.
