The initiative is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to modernize public transport infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and reduce fuel consumption.

During a meeting with Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, the Prime Minister reviewed the government’s plan to gradually replace traditional fuel-powered vehicles used by state institutions with electric alternatives.

According to the Egyptian Cabinet, the program aims to build a more sustainable and technologically advanced transport system, while also strengthening environmental protection efforts and optimizing the use of state energy resources.

Officials expect the transition to electric vehicles to reduce spending on petroleum imports and improve the efficiency of government transport operations. Public institutions are also expected to serve as a model for implementing Egypt’s green mobility strategy.

Authorities discussed plans to expand supporting infrastructure for electric vehicles nationwide. These include the development of fast and smart charging stations, digital monitoring systems, and enhanced cybersecurity measures aligned with international safety standards.

The Ministry of Finance also presented a comparative analysis of operating costs between conventional and electric vehicles, indicating that the shift is expected to generate significant long-term savings for the state budget.

Earlier, it was reported Egypt is to add 2,500 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2026.
