Apple fixes charging bug on latest iPhones
Apple has released iOS 26.5.1 to address a software issue affecting the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 lineup that could prevent devices from charging after their batteries became fully depleted, reports a Qazinform News Agency correspondent.
According to reports, the bug caused wired charging to stop functioning in certain situations when a device's battery level dropped too low. As a result, some users found their phones completely discharged after being left plugged in overnight.
The update, released on June 1, is available exclusively for the iPhone Air and all models in the iPhone 17 family. Older iPhones are not affected and will not receive the update.
Apple introduced iOS 26.5.1 roughly three weeks after the release of iOS 26.5 in mid-May.
Users can install the update by navigating to Settings, selecting General and then Software Update.
The fix comes shortly after Apple introduced iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), with iOS 26 now entering a maintenance phase focused on bug fixes and performance improvements ahead of the next major software release.
Owners of affected devices are being encouraged to install the update to avoid potential charging issues.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that John Ternus is set to become Chief Executive Officer of Apple on September 1, while current CEO Tim Cook, who has led the company since 2011, will transition to the role of executive chairman of the board.
