Minor exceedance of permissible air quality level reported in Ust Kamenogorsk after blast at Kazzinc

Specialists have measured air quality in Ust-Kamenogorsk, East Kazakhstan region, following the incident at KazZinc LLP, Qazinform News Agency reports.

The measurements were prompted by concerns of residents, who noticed a cloud in the industrial zone and began actively discussing the situation on social media, even suggesting that schoolchildren be temporarily switched to distance learning.

According to the Department of Ecology, instrumental measurements and laboratory analyses were carried out at the site.

“Tests revealed a minor exceedance of permissible levels; however, no hazardous pollutants were detected, and there is no threat or risk to the population,” the department stated.

Experts emphasized that air quality monitoring is underway and the situation remains under constant control.

It should be recalled that the accident at the enterprise occurred on the morning of May 5.

As a result of the incident, two employees died and five others were injured. During the explosion at KazZinc, a workshop collapsed, with 32 people working in the emergency area.

The causes of the incident are being investigated.
