Majilis Speaker lays flowers at monument to legendary pilot Talgat Bigeldinov
Kazakh Majilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov laid flowers at the monument to twice Hero of the Soviet Union Talgat Bigeldinov in honor of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, Qazinform News Agency reports.
Representatives of parliamentary factions, veteran organizations, and residents attended the ceremony. Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of fallen heroes and home front workers.
Talgat Bigeldinov was a renowned pilot. During World War II, he flew 305 combat missions, demonstrating true heroism. In the postwar years, he was twice elected as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He later attained the rank of Major-General of Aviation.
The monument to the legendary pilot stands in a park on the street that bears his name in Astana's Saryarka district.
As Qazinform News Agency reported, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev, and Majilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov paid tribute at Astana's Otan Ana Monument to mark Victory Day.
Earlier, the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, extended Victory Day greetings to Kazakhstanis.
