Kazakhstan’s 60-year-old Paralympic champion Gabidullina wins bronze at World Para Swimming Series in Paris
The first Paralympic champion from Kazakhstan Zulfiya Gabidullina claimed a bronze medal at the World Para Swimming Series event held in Paris, continuing to impress at the age of 60, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The athlete, originally from Taraz, competed in the 150-meter individual medley, finishing the race in 3 minutes and 47 seconds. Her result secured third place, with swimmers from Uzbekistan and Russia also reaching the podium.
The competition, which took place from May 1 to 3, gathered around 200 athletes from 37 countries, highlighting its global scale.
Another standout performance for Kazakhstan came from Dias Kenzhebek, who set a new Asian record in the S10 classification in the 100-meter backstroke, finishing in 1 minute and 3 seconds.
Kazakhstan was represented by a team including Zulfiya Gabidullina, Natalya Zvyagintseva, Dias Kenzhebek, Yerzhan Salimgereyev, Saulet Rakhmanberdy, and Maksat Sarsembayev.
Looking ahead, the national team will compete in upcoming international events in Berlin from May 7 to 9. These competitions will serve as qualifiers for the Asian Para Games, scheduled to take place from October 18 to 26 in Nagoya, Japan.
