Doctors reveal condition of workers injured in Kazzinc explosion

Doctors have revealed the condition of those injured in the accident at the metallurgical site of Kazzinc LLP, Qazinform News Agency reports.

Immediately after the incident, five workers were taken to a specialized regional medical center. They were admitted as emergency patients, with intensive care specialists and trauma surgeons involved in providing treatment.

According to medical staff, two of the injured are in critical condition. One of them, a man born in 1980, suffered extensive thermal burns.

“The patient has burns covering up to 90% of the body surface, damage to the respiratory tract, and corneal injury. He is in an extremely critical condition; doctors are fighting for his life,” said Murat Nurbikenov, deputy chief physician of the regional specialized medical center.

Another injured worker, born in 1974, sustained a spinal injury.

“He was diagnosed with a compression fracture of the third lumbar vertebra with damage to the processes. The patient has been hospitalized in the trauma department and is receiving necessary treatment,” he clarified.

Among the injured is also a woman. She and two other workers were discharged after examination - they sustained bruises and minor abrasions.

As it was reported, the accident occurred on the morning of May 5. Environmental specialists have launched urgent air quality measurements.

As a result of the incident, two employees were killed and five others were injured. The explosion at Kazzinc caused a workshop collapse, with 32 people working in the affected area.

The causes of the incident are under investigation.
