According to Timeanddate.com, the solar day will last 1.25 milliseconds less than the usual 24 hours. Scientists say Earth’s rotation has been accelerating in recent years, reversing a long-term slowing trend caused by the Moon’s gravitational pull.

Similar anomalies were noted on July 9 and July 22 this year, and the shortest day on record occurred on July 5, 2024, at 1.66 milliseconds shorter than normal. Researchers link these variations to tidal forces, climate change, or shifts in Earth’s molten core.

If the trend continues, experts warn the world may need to introduce the first-ever “negative leap second” by 2029.

Earlier, it was reported that neuroscientists note novelty, memory, and attention play key roles in shaping the perception of time, including the feeling that it seems to pass more quickly as we grow older.
