World celebrates UN Russian Language Day

ALMATY. June 6. KAZINFORM For the first time the UN Russian Language Day was celebrated in 2010 when the United Nations Organization suggested marking the days of six official languages of the organization.

The corresponding decision was made on the occasion of International Mother Language Day celebrated on 21 February and initiated by UNESCO.

It was decided to celebrate the Russian Language Day on the 6th of June - the date of birthday of Alexander Pushkin.

The Russian language is the most widely spoken of the Slavic languages. It numbers more than 150 million native speakers.
