Wolverine and rare animals spotted in Kazakhstan’s Katon-Karagai National Park

Hidden cameras installed last December in remote areas of Katon-Karagai State National Nature Park in Kazakhstan have revealed the rich diversity of local wildlife, Qazinform News Agency learnt from the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry.

Images recorded between February and June 2026 captured a brown bear, a wolverine, mountain goats, wolves and other rare animals.

The monitoring project began in December 2025, when camera traps were installed to study wildlife behavior and habitats.

The latest inspection on June 11, 2026, confirmed the presence of these species, with photos shared by the Forestry and Wildlife Committee of the Kazakh Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry.

According to the wildlife protection and reproduction department of the park, camera traps help track the condition of animal populations, study their habitats, and improve conservation efforts.

Earlier, rare Persian leopards were spotted in the Ustyurt Nature Reserve.
