UNESCO CEO arrives in Astana for inauguration of Inte'l Decade for Cultures' Rapprochement

"She will come to Astana on August 23 to take part in the international conference devoting to inauguration of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures. The organizers of this event are the National Commission for UNESCO of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh Foreign Ministry. As part of its sixty-second session, the UN General Assembly declared 2010 the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures and endorsed UNESCO's leading organization for the meeting's preparation.

According to her, in December 2012 at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled "Promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace", one element of which became the proclamation of International Decade of the rapprochement of cultures for the period of 2013-2022, initiated by Kazakhstan.

In the framework of the official visit to Central Asia, Bokova will also attend the opening of the UNESCO' chair on tolerance in the Gumilyev Eurasian National University in Astana.
