Tokayev, Mirziyoyev discuss trade, investment, transport cooperation in phone call

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke by phone with Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Monday, Qazinform News Agency cites the Akorda press service.

During the talk, Uzbek president Mirziyoyev congratulated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the success of the first election of deputies to the Qurultay.

Tokayev thanked Mirziyoyev for Uzbekistan’s support and for sending an observer mission to monitor the elections, including as part of international organizations.

The Kazakh leader also briefed his Uzbek counterpart on ongoing domestic political reforms in the country. Tokayev said the Qurultay represents an important part of the country’s continuing political transformation aimed at building a progressive, modern and just Kazakhstan.

The two presidents expressed satisfaction with the development of Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan relations, which continue to strengthen in the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership.

Particular attention was paid to expanding trade and economic ties between the two nations. The presidents discussed the implementation of joint investment projects in transport and logistics, industrial cooperation and efforts to increase contacts between business communities of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Tokayev and Mirziyoyev also exchanged views on current issues on the regional and international agenda.

Earlier, Qazinform reported President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had congratulated Kazakh judokas on the historic World Championships success.
