54-year-old Aigul Yerzhanova, a primary school teacher from Astana, has returned home from the IPF Powerlifting World Championships held in Cairo, Egypt, with gold medals, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the local authorities.

Aigul Yerzhanova, who stays in Astana and works as a primary school teacher in the Kazcosmos school lyceum No.50 named after Raiymbek, claimed two gold medals at the IPF Powerlifting World Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
54-year-old teacher Aigul competed against rivals from nearly 20 countries, managing to lift 100kg, setting a world record for female powerlifting in her weight and division.
Aigul Yerzhanova started engaging in the sport at the age of 52 and quickly rose through the ranks to claim repeatedly world championship titles in half and a year.
As it’s the first such competition for Kazakhstan, I was initially mistaken for a Chinese athlete. But, when the world record was broken, everyone learnt that I was from Kazakhstan, says Aigul.
Aigul, who was granted Kazakhstan’s Honored Teacher title by the Head of State last year, says ‘it’s possible to conquer the world by mastering both knowledge and sport, thus revealing new facets of man's potential at any age’.
Earlier it was reported that Nadezhda Morozova of Kazakhstan finished in the top-5 in the Women’s Speed Skating event at the 9th Asian Winter Games in China's Harbin.
