Statham co-star charged over 320kg meth plot
British actress Emaa Hussen, who appeared alongside Jason Statham in the 2013 film Redemption, has been accused of involvement in an alleged attempt to import 320 kilograms of methamphetamine into Australia, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
The investigation began after border officials detected a suspicious shipment arriving from Ghana at Sydney's Port Botany. According to authorities, the containers were declared as bags of charcoal. However, inspections revealed approximately 320 kilograms of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of AUD 296 million hidden inside.
Investigators removed the drugs and launched a controlled operation. The container was later delivered to a storage facility in a Sydney suburb, where, police allege, the British national arrived and oversaw the unloading of the shipment.
Some of the bags were subsequently transported to a house in Blacktown. AFP officers later executed a search warrant at the property and arrested the woman. Investigators seized dozens of bags believed to have previously contained methamphetamine, along with electronic devices and documents considered relevant to the case.
Hussen has been charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Two additional suspects were arrested in South Australia as part of the same investigation. Police allege they assisted the operation by using false identities to rent storage units in Sydney.
The AFP said the seizure prevented an estimated 3.2 million drug deals from reaching Australian streets.
Earlier, it was reported that one of the world's most wanted drug lords, El Mencho, was killed during a military operation in Mexico.
