St. Petersburg hosted final ceremony of ‘Marathon of memory’ campaign

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - In St. Petersburg a delegation headed by Majilis Speaker Kabibulla Dzhakupov took part in the final ceremony of the large-scale campaign called "Marathon of memory", organized by the Council of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in honor of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

According to the press service of the Majilis, the action started on March 11 in the capital of Belarus - Minsk. The delegation visited the capital of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth. The deputies visited the memorials erected in memory of those killed in the Great Patriotic War. The final ceremony held at the Great Courtyard of the Tauride Palace involved MPs of the IPA CIS member states who combined the particles of flame into one big torch of the Commonwealth. The flame will be transferred to the branch of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg "Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad". In addition, as part of the celebrations, the Presidential Library named after Boris Yeltsin has held an opening of the exhibition called "We won because we were united." Here are represented documents, photos, newsreels which captured the major milestones of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Original objects of weapons and uniforms, personal belongings of the Red Army, awards and medals are showcased at the exhibition. A separate exhibition is devoted to Kazakhstan and its contribution to the victory in the Great War. The delegation included Majilis deputies M.Ashimbayev, M.Begentayev, B.Ertayev, A.Kozhahmetov, V.Rogalev, R.Sarpekov, S.Seydumanov, and A.Turtayev.
