South Korea tests drone-robot delivery system for heavy cargo
South Korea’s space agency announced Thursday that it successfully conducted a field test of a contactless heavy cargo delivery system using drones and robots last month in Sacheon, southwest of Seoul, Yonhap reports.
The technology, currently undergoing field verification at multiple sites since March, was jointly developed by the Korean Aerospace Agency (KASA) and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).
This innovative system integrates drones with ground-based robots to transport products seamlessly to designated destinations.
According to KASA, the two institutions are rigorously testing the system’s performance and safety under diverse scenarios. Plans are underway to expand field trials to additional locations across South Gyeongsang Province later this month.
Earlier, it was reported that South Korea had unveiled $518 billion plan for new semiconductor hub.
