Single-step multiorgan transplant to four patients successful in Almaty

ALMATY. July 10. KAZINFORM - For the first time in the country Scientific Center of Surgery named after Syzganov successfully held on July 3-4 this year a multiorgan transplantation of organs from one donor to four patients. This has been announced today by representatives of the center at a special press briefing in Almaty.

"The first in our country heart transplant from a donor after death, was successfully carried out last July in Astana, the national transplant marked the breakthrough," said the deputy general director of the center Yerbol Shaikhiyev. According to him, the success of the new national transplant was a complicated operation at the Center for Surgery on multiorgan donor organ retrieval (a heart, a liver and two kidneys)from a postmortem donor and their single-step transplantation to four patients.

In the operations have been involved a total of approximately 100 paramedics including 22 surgeons. The total duration of the operation is 28 hours, and the longest was a liver transplant, which lasted 17 hours, it has been told about today at a press briefing by the representatives of the center. It was also noted that the health condition of patients after surgery, fortunately, is good.

In today's world of transplantation a key indicator of the state of country's health is transplantation of organs, then medicine in this country is at a high level of development. In the Republic of Kazakhstan about 3,000 people are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant, around 170-200 Kazakh citizens annually are in need of a liver transplant, the same need a heart transplant. The most difficult and expensive operations that Kazakhs are forced to do abroad, in practice, can be done by highly skilled surgeons here.
