Shooting near the White House, armed suspect injured
An incident involving gunfire occurred near the White House in the U.S. capital, leaving an armed man injured, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The incident took place on May 4 at around 3:30 p.m. local time in the area of the Washington Monument, approximately one kilometer from the White House.
According to the U.S. Secret Service, officers spotted an armed individual and attempted to stop him. The suspect tried to flee and then opened fire at agents. An exchange of gunfire followed, during which the suspect was shot by law enforcement officers and taken to a hospital. There is no threat to protected individuals.

The agency also confirmed that its personnel are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C., and urged the public to avoid the area. It added that one individual was shot by law enforcement and that their condition was unknown at the time.

According to U.S. media reports, the area around the White House was temporarily placed under lockdown, while journalists and staff nearby were evacuated. Streets in the vicinity were closed.
At the time of the incident, U.S. President Donald Trump was inside the building attending a business event.
The suspect’s motives remain unknown at this stage. His condition has not been officially disclosed.

After sounds resembling gunshots were heard, attendees took cover, and U.S. President Donald Trump left the event accompanied by security personnel.
