Astana will once again host one of the world’s largest Counter-Strike 2 events, as PGL Astana 2026 takes place May 15-17 at Barys Arena, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
For the second consecutive year, Kazakhstan’s capital will become a key destination on the global esports calendar. The tournament is organized by PGL Esports SRL, one of the industry’s leading event operators known for hosting major competitions in Stockholm, Antwerp, Bucharest, and Singapore. Hosting PGL Astana 2026 underscores Astana’s position on the international esports map.
The 2026 edition will feature a USD 1.6 million prize pool and 16 top-tier teams, including Team Spirit, G2 Esports, FURIA Esports, and Heroic.
The event is also expected to bring together prominent international esports personalities and media figures, including Counter-Strike world champion Dauren Kystaubayev, FURIA Esports player Danil Golubenko, streamer Slava Buster, PGL host James Banks, and Brazilian two-time Counter-Strike champion Gabriel Toledo.
PGL Astana 2025 became one of the most notable non-Major tournaments in the PGL circuit. Its grand final attracted more than 920,000 viewers on Twitch, with total viewership exceeding 1.3 million.
Beyond its media impact, the tournament has also contributed to tourism and the urban economy. In 2025, the event attracted around 20,000 spectators, increasing demand for hotels, restaurants, and local infrastructure. The overall economic impact was estimated at approximately USD 11.6 million.
Hosting PGL Astana 2026 further highlights the rapid growth of esports as a global industry and strengthens Astana’s position as an emerging international hub for major esports events.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that Astana would host the Games of the Future 2026 from July 29 to August 9, with a $4 million prize pool.
