Over 70% in Ulken village take their votes in NPP construction referendum

Over 70% of people in Ulken village cast their votes in the nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan as of 02:00 pm, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Head of the district referendum commission of Ulken village Aliya Ukibayeva noted the high voter turnout with more than 775 people voting in the referendum so far.

She noted the referendum is of great importance for all Kazakhstanis. No violations were recorded.

643 polling stations were opened in Almaty region with 655 referendum commissions, including a regional and 11 territorial commissions.

As earlier reported, the nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant started in Kazakhstan today, October 6. As of 10:00 am some 17.79% or 2,178,593 Kazakhstanis voted in the referendum. As of 12:00 the number of voters reached 39.23%. 6,339,428 cast their votes as of 02:00 pm.

As earlier reported, polling stations in Seoul and Tokyo were the first to open at 07:00 am local time.

74 polling places were established in 59 countries with 12,307 voters in total.
