Majilis approves bill on total ban of e-cigarettes in Kazakhstan

Majilis deputies have approved today the bill “On amendments to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on healthcare”. The document will be submitted to the Senate, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The draft law provides for total ban on the import, manufacturing, sale and distribution of e-cigarettes (vape pens), fluids and flavorings for them.

As reported, in May 2023, Deputy of the Majilis from Respublica Party Nurgul Tau, submitted a parliamentary request to the Prime Minister of the country. The Deputy demanded to stop distributing vape pens among children, teenagers and young people.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the turnover of vapes has increased 300 times over the past two years. The use of vape pens by children and teenagers has risen significantly over the past few years. It is a highly profitable business the document reads.

The Ministry of Healthcare has been calling on the country's authorities to ban vaping since 2021.
