Kazakhstan wins 4 medals at ICCD World Deaf Team Chess Championship

Kazakhstan’s athletes won two silver and two bronze medals in classical chess at the 20th ICCD World Deaf Team Chess Championship 2026 in Roquetas de Mar, Spain, Qazinform News Agency reports.

In the individual competition, Nina Zhukovskaya claimed silver, while Berik Nurymov won bronze. In the youth team event, Dinmukhammed Oralbayev and Dias Usmanov earned silver medals. In the adult team competition, Samazhan Kettebekov, Nariman Nauryzgaliyev, Sultan Kozhakhmetov, Viktor Maksimenko, and Maxim Rozhkov secured bronze medals for Kazakhstan.

“Thirteen athletes are representing Kazakhstan at the World Chess Championship. The tournament serves as one of the qualifying stages for the 21st Winter Deaflympics, which will take place in Austria from January 15 till 24, 2027. Our athletes still have rapid and blitz competitions ahead in both the individual and team events,” said Abai Akhmetov, a methodologist at the Center for Sports Training for Persons with Physical Disabilities.

The 20th ICCD World Deaf Team Chess Championship is set to run on May 6–15. The tournament brought together 120 athletes from 30 countries.

Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that the Kazakhstan team had secured one gold, four silver, and six bronze medals at the 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Rabat, Morocco.
