Kazakhstan-U.S. cooperation on non-proliferation and stabilization of Afghanistan discussed in 'Nazarbayev Center'

During the meeting it was noted that Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the cooperation within the international system for cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. During the meeting it was noted that Kazakhstan and the U.S. have passed a long way of cooperation in various areas since the historic decision of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev's renunciation of nuclear weapons. Nowadays Kazakhstan, being the largest producer of uranium, having developed nuclear industry, as well as having the appropriate infrastructure and capabilities for the storage of nuclear materials, is intended to contribute to the development of non-proliferation and peaceful nuclear energy. Kazakhstan expects further support from the U.S. to the initiative on placing in Kazakhstan an International Bank for low-enriched uranium under IAEA auspices.
Kanat Saudabayev emphasized that Kazakhstan praises the results of the Seoul Summit on nuclear security and makes every effort to implement the Summit Communique. The parties noted that the outcomes of meetings of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev with U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders, as well as a trilateral statement of the leaders of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the U.S.A and Russia, not only demonstrated the consistent leadership of Kazakhstan in the global non-proliferation process, but also gave a powerful impetus to bilateral cooperation in this important area, which is a cornerstone of the Kazakhstan-U.S. strategic partnership.
Geoffrey R. Pyatt and Vann H. Van Diepen marked the leadership of Kazakhstan in a number of global security initiatives, as well as a significant contribution of Kazakhstan to the international community's efforts to stabilize Afghanistan and the importance of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the U.S. to stabilize the situation in this country in the coming period.
The two sides also discussed prospects for cooperation of "Nazarbayev Center" with their counterparts in the United States.
