Kazakhstan to host over 350 events to celebrate Abai Day
On August 10, Kazakhstan will celebrate the 181st anniversary of the great poet, thinker, educator, and composer Abai Kunanbayuly, Qazinform News Agency reports.
More than 350 cultural, educational, scientific, and sporting events will take place across the country.
Abai’s legacy has received wide international acclaim. In 1995, his 150th anniversary was celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO.
His literary, philosophical, and musical works, along with his ideas on knowledge, labor, justice, and morality, remain highly relevant today.
“The Epoch of Abai: Documents and Memories” and “World of Abai in Visual Arts” exhibitions, a literary quest, Abai Song Festival, and flower-laying at the monument “Abai with Sons” will be held in Semey.
Astana will host various poetry evenings, karaoke with Abai’s songs, a forum for young authors, lectures, and book fairs.
Almaty and Shymkent cities will play host to literary and museum programs, open days at the Hakim Abai Museum, and educational events.
The regions will hold aytys competitions, concerts, theatrical performances, poetry readings, exhibitions, and. The Abai Joly ultramarathon (100 miles) will be held in Abai region.
In Beijing, a roundtable “Abai — A Great Figure” will highlight his literary and philosophical heritage.
On August 10, flower-laying ceremonies at Abai monuments will be held in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and regional centers, with the participation of cultural figures, youth, and the public.
Earlier Qazinform reported, at the 5th session of the Ulttyq Qurultay, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called for the inclusion of Abai’s The Book of Words in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register for documentary heritage.
