Kazakhstan opens honorary consulate in Greater Manchester
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan has officially opened in Greater Manchester, marking a significant step toward enhancing regional ties between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom. The opening ceremony was attended by members of Parliament, local political figures, and Kazakh representatives, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
The newly established consulate aims to foster cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and education between the two nations. Ambassador Magzhan Ilyassov underscored the importance of these initiatives in his address, introducing Abid Latif Chohan, a Deputy of the Manchester City Council, as the Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Greater Manchester. Chohan will play a key role in advancing bilateral relations, particularly in economic and cultural exchanges.
"Delighted to open an Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in Greater Manchester! A major step in further development of Kazakhstan and the UK regional ties with a focus on trade, investments, cultural & educational relations," Ambassador Ilyassov said. He emphasised the consulate’s potential to promote mutual growth and understanding between the two countries.
Ambassador Ilyassov also met with Kazakh students, holders of the Bolashak scholarship, who are studying in master’s and PhD programmes in Manchester and beyond. These discussions focused on student adaptation, academic progress, and career opportunities upon their return to Kazakhstan.
Ambassador Ilyassov expressed his pride in the Bolashak fellows: "It is always a pleasure to meet with the fellows of the Bolashak program! This time it is a group studying in the Greater Manchester area and beyond, receiving master's and doctoral degrees in various fields. I wish them all success!"
