Kazakhstan intends to expand energy cooperation with Korean partners
From October 22 to 25, a delegation of Kazakhstan led by the Minister of Energy, Almassadam Satkaliyev, paid a visit to South Korea , Kazinform News Agency has learned from the ministry's press service.

The Kazakh minister held a series of meetings with the representatives of Korea's major energy companies and government agencies.
The meeting addressed the issues of collaboration in the nuclear industry. The Korean side congratulated Kazakhstan on a successful organization of the referendum on the nuclear power plant (NPP) construction and expressed their readiness to hold consultations with the leading Korean companies on this issue.
A meeting with the Korean minister of trade, industry and energy, focused on the possibility of expanding the partnership relations in energy, including oil and gas industry, RES projects etc.
On top of that, Almassadam Satkaliyev held discussions with the representatives of the leading Korean companies, such as Doosan Enerbility, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), and Samsung C&T.
The sides discussed the possibility of the Korean companies' participation in an international consortium, which is currently being explored in Kazakhstan as a potential model for the implementation of the NPP construction project. Satkaliyev stated that the final decision on this matter will be made in 2025.
Following the talks with Doosan Enerbility, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Kazakh Ministry of Energy and Doosan Enerbility company. As per the document, the Korean company will review the opportunity of localizing its production of energy equipment, local workforce training and opening a representative office in Astana.
Kazakhstan cooperates with Doosan Enerbility within the project of building a 1000 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant in Turkistan region. The Korean company is also conducting a technical survey of Kazakhstan's energy complex in collaboration with KEPCO KPS to reduce emissions and to extend the plant life.
