Kazakhstan and UK strengthen archival cooperation
During the International Congress of Archivists Digital Archive EXPO in Astana, the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Archives of the United Kingdom signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand collaboration, Qazinform News Agency cites the Kazakh Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The memo provides for professional exchange of expertise and training for archivists, joint research projects in archival science and preservation, digital innovation including AI and electronic record management and educational initiatives such as seminars, webinars, and outreach programs.

Director of the Presidential Archive Aliya Mustafina and Chief Digital and Information Officer at the National Archives John Sheridan signed the memo.
They also debated digital transformation, preserving electronic records, and strengthening global archival dialogue.

Aliya Mustafina emphasized the importance of reinforcing ties to address challenges in digital heritage preservation.
John Sheridan praised the partnership, noting archives’ role in safeguarding collective memory and the need for new approaches in the digital era.

The partnership builds on years of cooperation through international seminars, expert consultations, and professional meetings.
This year, the UK representatives also contributed to the III Congress of Archivists, with Andrew Payne scheduled to lead a seminar on AI in education and the use of archival resources in modern classrooms.
Earlier, Uzarchive under the Justice Ministry of Uzbekistan and the Archive of the President of Kazakhstan signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
