It was proclaimed by participants of a recent forum in Moscow "On ban of nuclear tests around the world free of nuclear weapons". The event was dated to the International Day against Nuclear Tests observed on August 29.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Russia Galym Orazbakov opened the discussions and briefed those present on the key approaches of Astana's initiatives in the sphere of non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament. It was noted that currently Kazakhstan has taken a firm line in terms of further drastic measures to avert the nuclear threat.

"We strongly believe that the global anti-nuclear movement has commenced when President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev inked the decree on the closure of the Semipalatinsk Test Site. This direction is one of the priorities of our foreign policy," the head of the Kazakh diplomatic mission said.

According to Russian experts, thanks to Kazakhstan's initiatives in non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament the international community can create a safer global world.

Alexey Vlasov, the director of "North-South" politological center, noted that Kazakhstan's initiatives in the sphere of nuclear disarmament are written into the context of the country's activity in the international arena.

"By renouncing the fourth largest nuclear arsenal, Kazakhstan has joined the pool of civilized states and defined the contours of its development for the upcoming decade," A. Vlasov added.

He also stressed that those initiatives should be implemented in the conditions of confidence-building measures and renouncing double standards between the participants of the global community.
