Kazakhstan and Russia keen on boosting expert dialogue

The Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan (KazISS) and the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of the Russian Academy of Sciences held an expert meeting, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to the press service of the KazISS, the two leading think tanks of Kazakhstan and Russia discussed the dynamics of both countries’ cooperation, highlighting the need to deepen expert dialogue on key areas of bilateral agenda. The meeting also saw an exchange of views on the pressing issues of international and regional security.

During the event, Yerkin Tukumov, director of the KazISS, pointed to the positive bilateral relations and regular meetings at different levels. He highlighted the inviolability of Kazakhstan-Russia strategic partnership as a key factor of the stability in the Eurasian space.

Under the present circumstances, it’s necessary for us to look out for and respect the interests of each other. Mutual trust and respect to the national interests that underpin our equal partnership take on new meaning, said Tukumov.

The KazISS director went on to note that 2025 marks 20 years since Kazakhstan and Russia signed the Treaty on the state border, leading to fruitful cooperation, largely attributed to regular political dialogue.

Tukumov highlighted the key role of professional expert interaction, as both countries embark on a new stage in their strategic cooperation. ‘Intellectual diplomacy plays a special role in this process and contributes significantly to greater interaction between our countries, he said.

In turn, IMEMO RAS director Feodor Voitolovsky pointed out the growing role of middle powers, among which is Kazakhstan, amid shifts in international relations.

Voitolovsky highlighted that the ongoing communication between the KazISS and IMEMO at individual and institutional levels has proved to be efficient as a mechanism to boost different tracks of bilateral relations.

The sides confirmed their readiness to promote intellectual interaction while engaging wider circles of expert community members of both countries.

Earlier it was reported that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had held a meeting with the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin.
