Own tissues were utilized to repair the trachea of a 38-year-old man from Baizak district allowing him to eat by mouth and breathe.

The man was rushed to the hospital with a severe cervical spine injury and performed a tracheostomy to maintain his airway above the trachea. Over a year he had pain or discomfort around the area of the tracheostomy, including difficulties cleaning and inserting the tube.

Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Bolat Shalabayev from Astana and surgeon Zhados Seidakhmetov from Zhambyl region performed one of the most complex surgeries to restore the man’s respiratory functions.

It is worth reminding that Kazakh surgeons performed a unique 6-hour-long surgery to restore blood flow to the brain.
