Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Félix Tshisekedi hold talks in narrow format
Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Félix Tshisekedi held talks in a narrow format, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Akorda press service.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Félix Tshisekedi for accepting his invitation to visit Astana.
The Kazakh President emphasized the significance of the first state visit of the Congolese President to Kazakhstan, saying it would give a new impulse to the development of relations between the two countries.
He said that Kazakhstan views DR Congo as an important partner on the African continent and is interested in comprehensive development of the bilateral cooperation.
“Your country with a population of more than 110 million people is rich in human and natural resources. Its authority rises both at the international and regional levels,” he said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said he expects that today’s talks will contribute to the strengthening the ties between Central Asia and Africa.
“Enhancing the interaction with the African states is one of important areas of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy,” he said.
For his part, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo expressed confidence that the results of the upcoming talks will help promote the deepening the ties between the two nations.
He thanked the President and entire nation of Kazakhstan for a warm welcome provided to him and his delegation.
He said he arrived in Astana to strengthen ties and cooperation not only between the two countries, but also between the African region and Central Asia as a whole. He expressed confidence that such visits will enable the sides to get closer and get to know each other better.
"We have had the opportunity to work with your country through ERG, which is very active in the mining industry, but we think there are many other areas where we could exchange experience and strengthen our cooperation,” Félix Tshisekedi said.
During the talks, the presidents also discussed relevant issues of the international and regional agendas.
As it was reported, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Félix Tshisekedi arrived in Astana for a state visit, at the invitation of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
