«Integrated policy on natural disaster prevention» seminar held in Almaty

ASTANA. August 15. KAZINFORM - International seminar themed "Integrated policy on natural disasters prevention" with the participation of Japanese experts, invited by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the framework of further technical support for Kazakhstan, took place in Almaty at the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction on August 14 — 15, the press service of Emergency Ministry informs.

The primary purpose of the event was to create new project to provide follow-up JICA technical support to the research mission of Kazakhstan in Autumn 2013.

The workshop was chaired by Seytkazhe Okasov, Chief of Staff of the Emergency Ministry of Kazakhstan, Yuriy Ilyin, First Deputy Akim of Almaty, JICA expert and Hiroyuki Okazaki, advisor on projects' realization in the Republic of Kazakhstan. There were also invited Japanese experts such as Kenji Okazaki, a lecturer from the Kyoto University and Maki Yoshida, a lecturer from the Asian Centre for Disaster Reduction.

The event reviewed and discussed the following topics - "Training on disaster risk management at the community level", "Seismic safety and earthquake damage reduction", "Buildings' seismic reinforcement" and "Opportunities of Kazakhstan for disaster prevention."
