Head of State briefed on social and economic development of Almaty in nine months

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dossayev, Kazinform News Agency cites Akorda.

The Head of State heard a report on the preliminary results of the social and economic development of Almaty in nine months of this year.

As Mayor of Almaty Dossayev said, the short-term economic indicator stood at 104.1% in the reporting period. The city is to expect the growth of gross regional product at 5.5% in 2024, predicted to accelerate to 6.4% in 2025. In nine months, a total of 1,133 billion tenge worth of investments were funneled in the city’s fixed capital with a growth of 8.1%. The figure is predicted to reach 2 trillion tenge in 2024.

The President was briefed that the local budget revenues had risen 27.2%, making it possible to finance the priority projects under Almaty city’s 2025 Development Program and the medium-term prospects before 2030. Almaty’s budget has been increased by 204.5 billion tenge to 1,828.5 billion tenge since the beginning of 2024.

The work is ongoing to diversify the city’s economy with a focus on the development of SMEs under the instruction of the Head of State. The number of active SMEs was up 6.2%, reaching 361.1 thousand, while the share of SMEs in the GDP is expected to reach 60% by the yearend.

Under the realization of the President’s instructions, the new urban development regulations, building regulations and the housing renovation program have been developed to ensure Almaty city’s quality development and efficient control. The changes are to be approved at a session of the city’s Maslikhat before the end of the year.

Tokayev was informed that the 2024 budget for the healthcare infrastructure modernization has risen 2.5fold to 26.3 billion tenge. In August, Kazakhstan’s first-ever Early Intervention Center was established in Almaty as a result of the interdepartmental cooperation aimed at reducing disability among children.

Over the reporting period, 219km of new and 27.3km of the existing water supply and water disposal networks were built and modernized; 66km of power supply lines were reconstructed.

The Head of State was presented with the information about the realization of his instruction regarding expansion of Almaty’s green space. It was informed that 110km of drip irrigation systems were installed for efficient green spaces maintenance. The area of park areas is set to be increased to up to 996 ha in 2024.

Following the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave a number of instructions aimed at increasing the contribution of SMEs to the city’s economy, developing the transport framework and making public transport greener, as well as qualitatively modernizing the engineering and social infrastructure.
