Earthquake strikes eastern Kazakhstan

An earthquake was recorded in Kazakhstan on August 24, 2026, at 7:31 p.m. Astana time, Qazinform News Agency reports.

According to the National Center for Seismological Observation and Research of the Kazakh Emergency Ministry, the epicenter was located in Kazakhstan, 257 kilometers southeast of Almaty, at coordinates 49.117°N, 84.500°E.

In the village of Ulken-Naryn in the East Kazakhstan region, the estimated intensity reached 2 on the seismic scale.

Earlier, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Changning County, Yibin City, southwest China's Sichuan Province at 8:26 a.m. on Monday (Beijing Time).
