Death toll rises to 3 after Kazzinc plant explosion
The number of people killed in the explosion at Kazzinc’s metallurgical plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk rose to three, Qazinform News Agency reports.
A worker born in 1980, who suffered severe burns covering 90% of his body, passed away in hospital despite intensive treatment and the arrival of top specialists from Astana.
Kazzinc expressed deep condolences to the family and confirmed support for the victims’ families and employees.
As written before, the incident occurred on the morning of May 5, when a dust-collecting unit at the Kazzinc plant reportedly exploded, causing a fire and partial structural collapse and killing two workers. Their families will receive compensation equal to their 10 years’ salary.
Environmental specialists were conducting urgent air quality measurements following the explosion.
