Cross-border trade accounts for 70% of total trade btw Kazakhstan and Russia – Majilis speaker Koshanov
Speaker of the Majilis Yerlan Koshanov received Russian ambassador to Kazakhstan Alexei Borodavkin. The sides discussed the development of bilateral relations, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the lower chamber of parliament.
Greeting the Russian diplomat, Koshanov, chairman of the Majilis, noted that Russia and Kazakhstan have been consistently developing cooperation based on the agreement on good-neighborliness and alliance.
The Heads of State give high dynamics to our multifaceted cooperation as regular cross-border cooperation forums with the participation of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin are held. Important economic projects are launched following these events. The trade turnover between our countries has been steadily growing, with cross-region trade responsible for 70%, said Koshanov.
The Majilis speaker stressed that the interparliamentary cooperation is an integral part of Kazakh-Russian relations. Interaction with colleagues from the State Duma in different formats – between deputy groups on cooperation and within the Inter-chamber parliamentary commission – has stepped up. Deputies regularly meet within the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Interparliamentary Union, and other multilateral forums.
This year, Kazakhstan chairs the Collective Security Treaty Organization. A CSTO Parliamentary Assembly meeting is to take place in June in Almaty, said Koashanov.
For his part, Borodavkin stated that Russia attaches great importance to the cooperation with Kazakhstan, successfully developing in a wide range of political, trade and economic and cultural and humanitarian ties.
The sides also discussed the preparation for an official visit of the Majilis speaker to Russia as well as the participation of Kazakhstani deputies in observing the presidential elections in Russia.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations, including within the interparliamentary cooperation.
