Budget of Olympic Games-2022 cut by over USD 500 mln

ALMATY. KAZIFNROM - The concept of holding the Olympic Games-2022 in Almaty has been optimized in accordance with the International Olympic Movement. The budget of the Olympiads is cut by more than 500 US dollars, the press service of the directorate of international sports projects of Almaty informs.

As earlier reported, the representatives of the Evaluation Commission of the IOC visited Almaty in February within their official trip.

The Olympic Agenda-2020 that came into force already significantly reconsiders approaches to holding Olympic Games. Almaty was also the first city-candidates visited by the Evaluation Commission.

"The bid committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2022 in Almaty proposed to optimize some points of the concept of holding the games in 2022 in terms of holding some sports events and use of sports facilities," the statement reads.

Thus, the Alpine skiing events will be held at already existing sports facility "Almatau and snowboard and freestyle skiing are planned to be moved to "Ak Bulak" ski resort.

Holding of sledge hockey within the Paralympic Games will be held in B. Sholak Sports Palace. The Olympic village "Medeu" will provide accommodations for 350 people instead of 1000 as it was planned before. Besides, it was decided not to build special media centers and residential complexes for mass media representatives.

Thus, the bid committee of the Almaty-2022 managed to cut the budget of the games by 100 mln US dollars and the expenditures that are not directly related to the activity of the Executive Committee are cut by 450 mln US dollars.
