Beijing, Oslo challenge Almaty for 2022 Olympics

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Ukrainian city of Lviv has abandoned its bid to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022, according to the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
This decision was made taking into account the political and economic crisis in the Ukraine, said the IOC. But, according to the authorities of the city of Lviv, they will prepare an application for hosting Winter Olympics in 2026. The issues were discussed during the meeting of the IOC president Thomas Bach, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk and head of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Sergey Bubka. Thus, Almaty has two rivals to host the 2022 Olympics - Beijing (China) and Oslo (Norway). The final decision on the venue of the Olympic Games 2022 will be accepted July 31, 2015 at the IOC session in Kuala Lumpur.
