Ban Ki-moon applauds Al Farabi Kazakh University for finding new models for renewable energy

The forum brought together UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, other UN dignitaries, Nobel Prize winners, heads of international and nongovernmental organizations, presidents of world's top-ranking universities and many others. The UN Secretary General stressed that UNAI is making important contributions to the United Nations push for sustainable development and a sustainable future while addressing the forum. In this context, Ban Ki-moon especially praised the role of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in finding new models for renewable energy, the university's press service informs. At the forum, rector Galym Mutanov presented a report on the work done by the university as the chair of the UNAI Global Hub. Mr. Mutanov urged UNAI member universities to join the Model Plan for Sustainable Development of Universities approved at the 3rd Asian Universities Forum in Almaty in 2014. He also invited those present to join discussions of the problems of sustainable development at the G-Global virtual platform of the Al Farabi Kazakh National University. Participants of the forum positively estimated Kazakhstan's global initiatives such as Green bridge and G-Global. The UN Academic Impact Initiative was created in 2010 to help galvanize academic support to solve world's most difficult challenges.
