14 miners trapped after gas explosion in central Colombia
An explosion caused by a gas buildup at a coal mine in Colombia's central department of Cundinamarca has left 14 miners trapped and two others evacuated, local authorities said, Xinhua reports.
The blast occurred at the P3 Carbonera Los Pinos mine in the Penas de Boqueron sector of Sutatausa municipality. The municipal command post and the national mine rescue protocol were activated immediately, and municipal operational units and technical support were also being deployed, Governor of Cundinamarca Jorge Emilio Rey said on X.
"According to the latest data, the incident affected 15 miners. Three of them were able to get out on their own, one was already taken to the hospital for examination," the governor wrote on X.
According to him, the miners were working at a depth of about 600 meters at the time of the explosion. Rescuers are working on the spot, TASS reports.

The mine, operated by Carboneras Los Pinos, is located 70 km from the Colombian capital. The causes of the explosion have not yet been reported.

As reported earlier, 21 people were killed, and 61 others were injured after an explosion hit a fireworks plant in central China's Hunan Province on Monday, according to a local emergency management bureau.
