Almaty to unveil exhibition dated to December 1986 events

ALMATY. KAZINFORM The Almaty Central State Museum will open on December 12 an exhibition devoted to the Independence Day of Kazakhstan.
It will feature photos, personal files of the participants of the December events and other display exhibits. Its aim is to without a bias cover the December uprising and boost patriotism among the younger generation. The December events were the first manifestation of outcry, public dissent with the official policy of the authorities. 8,515 out of 30,000 people who participated in those events were detained. 2,400 were arrested, 1,722 young girls and men were wounded, while about 5,000 were taken outside the city and left to die in snow.
